Since Yixian wants to hear me sing instead of listening to the original songs, here's a taster video to whet your appetites...or at least hers. It's postage-stamp sized and sinfully brief (thanks to Hairy's incompetent filming) but I'll post a better one when the editing's done for the M-night DVD (you can see the trailer HERE).
I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never watch an entire Malaysia Night as a member of the audience, considering the past 2 years I've been freaking out backstage as Stage Manager/Director and rehearsing my dikir moves. This time I had to leave halfway thru the play so I could relieve my swollen bladder and change for my performance. What surprised me was how informal the occasion turned out to be. When you're backstage and yelling obscenities at cast and crew while praying the emcees wouldn't start talking for a few more mins, the night feels like the most important event of your life or at least your year. But when you're watching it from the stands of an 800+ capacity hall, every gesture and every dance move is somewhat diminished, and you'd never really grasp exactly how many hours of effort was put in for a paltry 3 hour show.
From what I saw, the show was most enjoyable and the energy really shone thru, so congrats to everyone who took part!
